Summer 2020 is officially behind me! I have a lot of mixed emotions as I start this new semester, but I am finally starting to feel excited about beginning my new classes and getting into a regular routine. It's been a while since I've posted, so I thought I would share some of my summer with you :)
Nursing school didn't stop for me over break! I took one online class: Inquiry into Evidence-Based Nursing. I wasn't excited about it, but I have to admit that I ended up learning a lot and really enjoying it! This class was not especially challenging, but it did require a LOT of outside research. We met once a week over Zoom from 8-2 and spent the rest of the week working on our class projects. We worked in groups and did an article critique, research paper, and a poster presentation. Our article critique was on the medical use of cannabis, and our research paper and poster presentation was a comparison of two major emergency room triage systems. For anyone who is interested, I have posted the links to both our projects below! The topics were not especially exciting, but we learned so much through the research, writing, and editing. I think the best part of this class was the group I worked with. Everyone was fantastic about staying on top of our assignments and working together to get our project done. Group projects always make me nervous, but this was an awesome experience!

The majority of my time this summer was spent at work! I was so thankful Ethan and I were still able to work despite the COVID restrictions. Chick-fil-A has implemented a lot of precautions, but masks, trays, gloves, and drive thru/mobile orders haven't stopped us! It's been a crazy summer, but I have been so thankful for our team. There have been a lot of challenges, but I have made some wonderful friends and learned so much. I firmly believe everybody should work in fast food at some point during their careers. You will learn an immense amount of patience, teamwork, responsibility and gain a huge amount of respect for all that goes on behind the scenes. It is no easy task to keep a restaurant open, especially these days, but I absolutely love my job and am so thankful for it!
( I recently updated our family blog with all my favorite recipes; click here to see them!)
Of course, this summer was certainly not all work and school! As always, I love cooking and baking for my family. We tried some delicious recipes this summer (my favorites are from Half Baked Harvest)!
One of the best parts of summer was when my sweet friend, Grace Dillard did my hair for me! I absolutely love my new highlights, and they definitely help make up for having to wear my hair up for the next few months of clinical!
This summer was packed with so many fun family hikes, picnics, and fun outings. I am so thankful for the extra time I got to spend with them!
Third semester has officially started! We had an all-day orientation from med-surge a couple weeks ago. It felt so strange to be back on campus, but it was so wonderful to see everyone again. My professors are doing a great job of managing the tricky clinical schedules and technical challenges, and so far the first weeks back have been good. I can't wait to take you all along with me this fall!
