Going into Fifth Semester

Updated: Feb 21, 2022

Is it possible that my fifth semester of nursing school is finally before me?! It seemed like a lifetime away when I first started the program, but now the end of my BSN journey is approaching quickly. It has been far from easy, but it has been one of the richest and most rewarding experiences of my life. This past summer has been a wonderful time of both relaxation and preparation for this upcoming semester, so I thought it was time for a little life update!

This was the first semester since high school that I did not take a summer class! It felt somewhat strange but also amazing to not have the pressure of assignments and exams. I did try to stay consistent with some NCLEX studying. I have been loving YourBestGrade and the Lippincott Q&A NCLEX-RN Review for my study resources. I will definitely be doing a post on what I have found most helpful, but I would also appreciate any suggestions fellow nursing students have for HESI exit and NCLEX prep. It is scary how quickly both exams are coming up!

Our summer started with a visit to NH! Ethan, Shaila and I went up for Lindsey and Aidan's wedding, and it was so good to see our family and NH friends again. I have so many memories from living there, and it holds a special place in my heart.

Mom has been doing a fantastic job building her business this summer. I have helped during my free time with her marketing and social media management, but I have mostly enjoyed doing Farmer's Markets on Saturdays. I bring one of my siblings with me, and we have been selling at Athens Saturday Market. It is such a fun, family-friendly environment, and we love both our regulars and the new customers we serve every week!

Of course, we cannot forget Chick-fil-A :) I have continued to work there full-time this summer. We moved to a new location several weeks ago, so there have been lots of changes, transitions, and learning opportunities as we have adapted to our new building and policies. I am so thankful for the time I have had working here and for the flexibility Norman and my managers have extended me during the busy unpredictability of my nursing schedule.

To be sure, this summer has been full of lots of laughter, fun, time with siblings, events with our church, trips to Chattanooga and Nashville, escape rooms, movies, ice cream, hikes, beach days, and countless other memories!

Fifth semester is fast approaching and is certain to be fully of enormous amounts of studying, precepting, reading, exams, and coffee! I am excited to finish my last semester strong, and I cannot wait to see what these next few months have in store...
