Dear Dad...

Writer's picture: Siobhan PierceySiobhan Piercey

This has been a weekend full of celebrating you, Dad! Saturday was your birthday, and today is Father's Day. I cannot think of anybody more deserving of two days of cakes, parties, countless handwritten cards, and family festivities! Dad, there are so many reasons why I am thankful for you, but I wanted to share a few of them today. Thank you for...

1) Supporting our big family

No matter how many late nights, grocery runs, doctor's appointments, or hours of overtime it has taken, you always take care of us! Thank you for all the sacrifices you make each and every day to fill our lives with so much joy.

2) Teaching us math and science, and doing endless experiments with us

I couldn't have made it through calculus without you! Having a dad who is so passionate about math and science is a huge blessing. Even when tears were shed, you persevered and engaged us in every project. I can't even count the amount of Saxon lessons, aluminum foil circuit boards, and equations you have worked through!

3) Taking care of your girls

One of my earliest memories with you is dancing endlessly to the ballet scene of the Nutcracker each Christmas. I desperately wanted to perform the waltz, and you patiently spun me around the living room, making me feel like a princess with each twirl of my ballet dress. You have always been ready to drop what you are doing to paint your little girls' nails or send us out for a special afternoon at the salon. Thank you for pampering us!

4) Your Patience

I can honestly say I have never met anyone as patient as you! No matter how many mistakes I have made, you always love me unconditionally and encourage me to learn from them and try again. One of my favorite ways to watch your patience play out is when you teach your kids how to ride a bike. No matter how long it takes, you keep your hand firmly planted on the bike seat until we are ready for you to let us go. When we do finally succeed (usually after hours of trying!) you are smiling just as proudly as we are.

5) Your Example

Each and every day you try to faithfully live out a godly example for us. You love Mom and your kids so well and show it by taking care of us, loving us no matter what, and showing us what it looks like to be the most incredible husband and father we could ask for.

6) Your Encouragement

No matter what crazy ambitions I have had, new hobbies I have started, or interests I have developed, you have always been supportive of me. When I decided I wanted to go to a college 18 hours, you drove there with me without a moment's complaint and encouraged me to pursue my dreams for all the right reasons. You showed me that it is okay to do things in a "different" way, as long as I am trying to live out my life faithfully with lots of love and prayer to guide me.

Thank you for being YOU, Dad! We love you so very much today, on your birthday, and every day! Happy, happy Father's Day.

All My Love,

Siobhan
